ELWAVE participated in a multi-partner sea trial campaign in Portland Harbour (UK) alongside Atlantas Marine, Sonardyne and ECS Special Projects to evaluate a complete robotic workflow for UXO and Mine Countermeasure operations.
The demonstration combined a VideoRay Defender ROV equipped with ELWAVE’s TETRAPULSE electrical imaging sensor, Sonardyne’s SPRINT-Nav inertial navigation system and an operational neutralization payload. The objective was to assess how advanced sensing, precise navigation and intervention capabilities could be integrated within a compact inspection-class ROV platform.
The trials successfully demonstrated the detection, localization and classification of representative mine targets in a realistic harbour environment. In particular, the combination of survey-grade navigation and electrical imaging provided operators with additional information for target assessment, including the ability to investigate challenging objects that may be non-metallic, partially buried or located in magnetically disturbed environments.
The operational lessons learned during these sea trials later contributed to ELWAVE’s presentation at MINWARA, where the company highlighted the role of electrical sensing in accelerating the classification and identification stages of modern mine countermeasure missions.
